| | Each time we call in for an inspection, we try to grab a shot of those who
are shepherding us through the process. Figuring out what is needed for a
restoration has been a learning experience, but not overly difficult. When
we started we didn't know what we needed to do, permit-wise.
Here are some of the folks we've worked with.
Chief Building Inspector
Bill Bryant
Early on, I thought the project was going to be pretty
simple. Since we weren't changing any of the walls or the structure --
except repair and restoration -- we thought we wouldn't have to get an
overall building permit. Instead, we could let the plumbers and electricians
pull individual permits as they went.
I called Bill and asked him if this was correct, and he said yes,
that's usually the case. Then I said, "Great, I'll put the
insulation in and then we can close the third floor."
"Um, wait a second. Did you say insulation?" I
said I did. "Well, then you have to get a framing inspection,
which means you do need a building permit." Sigh.
Turns out it was painless, and as a result we've had good guidance along
the way.
As they say, "Bill is good people" and understands what we
are doing. |

Building Inspectors
During each phase of the project when we are ready to "close in"
an area, we call for an inspector after the electrical and plumbing is
okayed.
We have two inspectors, depending on the schedule. Pictured on the right
is Richard Mountjoy.
Mike Moser has also been following the project closely. (I
haven't got his picture yet, but hope to soon.)
Both have provided good advice and counsel and have
been very enthusiastic about the project. They don't often get to
see restoration on old houses any more -- there aren't that many of them! |

Electrical Inspector
Carmine Kiancletta
Carmine has been following us from the barn, to the third floor, to the
old shop, down to the second floor, the wing floor, etc., etc.
Each close-in we get a bit nearer tothe finish line.
I think he's pretty pleased to see all the old stuff go. I know I
am.
Carmine appreciates seeing the job done right. So do we. |

| Soon we will add our plumbing inspector, Thomas Bunker
-- the last time he
was out I missed him, so next time I'm going to have the camera ready. |
