Half Bath
Home Up Kitchen Wing Wing - Part 2 Wing - Final Push Dining Room Front Hall Half Bath Parlor Porch Music Room Second Floor Third Floor

A tiny room under the front stairs is the half-bathroom.  This small space turns out to have lots of odd and unexpected detail.  No job is too small...

Early June

The old plumbing needs a rest.  As does the floor.  Note the old poplar studs and the amount of rot.

Here you can see the new beam (see The Main Beam project) and how the old studs had rotted out.  These will be sistered before close up.

Here you can see that the whole bathroom has been torn out along with all the rotted studs.

A fresh start!

This is a "before" picture of the half-bath window that was punched in some time in the early 20th century.

Ugly.  We can do better than this.

Here is the "after" picture (ignore the left over diagonal piece if you can).  Note the trim now is smaller and is beaded (inside), following the pattern of the house.  The apron is now a miniature version of the the main windows.

Much better proportions, don't you think? (Now scratch your chin thoughtfully and say, oh yes!).
