Porch
Home Up Kitchen Wing Wing - Part 2 Wing - Final Push Dining Room Front Hall Half Bath Parlor Porch Music Room Second Floor Third Floor

The back porch of the house has always been a major living space for the house during warmer weather.  Even on the hottest days the prevailing SE breezes flow past cooling foliage and right through the porch.  Even on the hottest days, the porch is always comfortable.

With a view south to the fields and the lane, and north to the waterfront on Ridout Creek, the porch was often used to entertain.  I remember grilling steaks and eating fresh sweet corn, giant tomatoes, squash, and other farm-grown delicacies.  After dinner my father would often pull out his accordion (and many times I fetched my bass fiddle) and music ran late into the night.

The old porch was tired.  Rotted and leaky.  Time to update and improve.

The original porch was just by the door 8' X 8'.  When our family moved in it was extended with a shed roof along the side of the house.

Not many years later we doubled its depth with a final footprint of 16' X 16'.  But it wasn't built all that well with one addition tacked onto another.  And it leaked.

Time for a new improved version.  Circle R Enterprises kindly contributed their labor to this job for which we are very grateful.

To the right the Circle R crew complete a wonderful new living space for the farm in record time and quality - again.  We're going to be calling them again for sure.

The designer for the space, Petro Designs, sent their crew out to finish off the porch and blend it in with the house.

Note how they incorporated arches in the porch that match those on the existing porch by the back door.

Finished Product on opening day:

WONDERFUL!
