October 1999
“Sliding
Puzzle” Game
First
we had to build a barn to hold all of the family furniture…
|
 |
November 1999
Then everything had to be packed and moved out.
|

|
November 1999
First
thing to be done was to replace the center beam in the house.
It had rotted out from termites and moisture.
The house had to be jacked up in the center
almost 2”. Assorted other
joists and beams were also jacked and blocked.
|
 |
December 1999
Once
the house was stable from within, demolition began.
All
the old plaster was knocked down and hauled out by hand.
DUST! |
 |
December 1999
The third floor was totally opened up in
preparation for the new HVAC system to be installed in the attic above. |
 |
December 1999
On the second floor, the walls and a door that
used to enclose the stairway to the third floor were removed, opening the
stairwell to its original three-floor
height. |
 |
| False
ceilings in the back hall that were added much later to cover plaster
damage were also removed. |
 |
December 1999
Sue removes the second floor back hall cedar
closet here. This back hall
is now restored to the same height as the main hall. |
 |
February 2000
Demolition continues downward.
Our master craftsmen arrive (Bruce and Will MacFarlane).
The
original plumbers didn’t think twice about cutting through beams.
We had to replace many and install new bathroom
floors. |

|
February-March 2000
Nothing
is square in an old house – even after it has been jacked up.
All of the walls and ceilings had to be furred
out, some to compensate for variations in floors and ceilings of up to
5”. |
